Forewords By Michael W. Joy and James Jordan

Laban Movement Theory has a long history of success when it comes to aiding and advancing many types of movement-based activities. The “language of movement” can become an indispensable tool to the handbell musician, changing the way music is perceived, analyzed, and performed.

  • Olympic athletes use it for increased performance.
  • Psychologists use it as a tool for behavioral assessment.
  • Industry leaders use it to match job applicants with suitable positions.
  • The U.S. government uses it to analyze the signatures of war criminals.
  • The Walt Disney Company uses it to create more expressive cartoon characters.
  • Music educators use it for teaching rhythm, conducting, and choral methods.

With the help of this book, handbell musicians can unlock Laban Movement Theory to address the sonic and visual aspects of handbell artistry with remarkable results. Handbell Artistry from the Inside Out is a major advancement in handbell pedagogy. You’ll never look at the art of ringing the same way again.
